I remarked on Twitter earlier today that I really dig stories about strangers paying off layaway accounts at Christmastime. I love that kind of altruism. I especially love that people in this story were going to be able to spend their money on essentials instead. I like knowing that people's families are getting presents and the utilities are staying on -- or the gas tank is getting filled, dinner is going on the table, whatever. Life is hard enough without having to worry about getting Christmas presents for everyone. I consider myself pretty lucky that I only have to take care of myself and a couple cats. Any day I give them catnip is Christmas!
